Heartwarming Client Testimonial

Writer: rangeptmontanarangeptmontana

Of course we love hearing from our clients about their experience at Range, but this one is extra special. Thank you B for sharing your story with not only us, but all those around you!

I sought out the help of Range PT after I finished 5 months of chemo for stage 2 breast cancer. I was hopeful they could help me because they had experience treating oncology patients. Before cancer, I was a very healthy, fit and active person. The chemo ravaged my entire body. I was so fatigued, I could not walk for more than a few minutes before my legs would buckle because they were so weak. I could not lift anything at all, carry anything, or sit up without assistance. I could not even sit down without a cushion because I had no glute muscles left. I also had impaired range of motion of my arm, and pain and numbness in my armpit and shoulder blade from the surgery. I had no idea where to begin to get my active lifestyle back. Fortunately, I found Maddie Small. Right from the beginning, she understood how debilitated I was, and where I wanted to get to. We began with basic range-of-motion and standing exercises. She helped me build up my core muscles from the inside out. I could not even sit up without assistance, and now I can do a 30 second plank. My stability when walking was shaky due to very weak hip and glute muscles. Maddie gave me targeted stretches and strength exercises to build back these muscles. She is always very in tune with where I am physically and mentally. Exercises are adjusted if they’re not working for me. She makes sure that I understand the dynamics of the movement and what muscles I’m targeting. She is also great at keeping me positive, focusing on what I can do, not what I can’t (yet do). When you have so far to go, it really helps to have someone reminding you of how far you’ve come. Even though I was someone who had exercised my entire life, I knew I needed professional help to recover. With Maddie’s expertise and direction, I am now on my way to being able to do the things I used to. Getting physical therapy after chemo is crucial to becoming a healthy person again, and it should be a mandatory part of treatment, but it isn’t. I would urge anyone who has suffered from chemo or any kind of injury to get help from Maddie. She is a wonderful Physical Therapist.
